Stephen completes his declaration of why Jesus is better by directly exposing the need of his listeners for Christ. Using language they were familiar with to compassionately and lovingly communicate truth, he confronts their sin and is stopped short before he can offer the gospel solution. The crowds hard-hearted response to the offensive truth of the gospel was drastically different from those in Acts 2 (humble acceptance), and slightly different from their earlier response in Acts 4 (indifference). This time around they respond with violent anger towards the exposing nature of the gospel and two outcomes are produced. Yet, through it all, God is glorified and the mission of the gospel continues to advance.
