ACTS | The Martyr: why Jesus is better

Acts 6:8 – 7:16 | The Martyr: why Jesus is better | Jan. 25, 2015

Stephen was continuing in the role he was given as a leader within the church, but being given a role in church leadership did not dissuade him from the first mission of the church found in Matthew 28:19 – to make disciples.  His desire to preach the gospel and see God’s kingdom grow had brought him into conflict with the Jews.  He easily could have conformed to the pressure, said what the opposition wanted to hear, and continue to do what he was doing only less publicly, but he didn’t.  He responded in love toward the opposition, but did not compromise the truth of Jesus Christ.
