The Exodus is a continuing story. At the end of Genesis, we find a family lead by a patriarch following God’s lead. As Exodus opens that family has become a great nation; God’s people. God’s people are in bondage without means to free themselves. So they cry for a deliverer from their oppressors. God Delivers. Yet the Exodus is a foreshadowing of a greater deliverance from a stronger oppressor for God’s people.
