The book of Jonah is an amazing example of God’s mercy on mankind; those far from him and those who know him with their minds, but have not surrendered their hearts. While we cannot misinterpret God’s mercy in Jonah as indifference, we do see another example of our God who is rich in mercy and unending love. We see firsthand when God’s mercy triumphs over judgement. But judgement still came upon Nineveh 100 years later. So Jonah also shows us mankind’s great need for a way to God’s unending mercy. This is only found in Jesus, whom Jonah ultimately reveals our great need for.
